The PiPop initiative
PiPop (PCA Internet Point Of Presence) is a program initiated
and developed by the PCA in order to address the “digital
divide” in the Lebanese society. For this purpose, the
PCA is collaborating with several parties (civil, public, and/or
international organizations) to create computer and internet
facilities in various parts of the country to be put at the
disposal of the local population. This would enable the latter
to have access to the latest technology and digital information.
The main objectives of PiPop are: creating several hubs in every
region, thus providing affordable access to technology to the
maximum number of people at all ages and providing communities
with small training center, thus offering them access to new
technology.
PiPop objectives do not stop here; in fact the latter aspire
to improve standards of living by constructing an economic-oriented
website for every village. Thirteen websites had already been
established and proved to be a perfect way to keep the Lebanese
Diaspora in contact with their villages. Moreover, PiPop is
aiming to help in creating new job opportunities, discovering
new potentials and bridging the gap between urban and rural
areas.
PiPop is looking for a promising future; up to 40 centers are
to be established, to encourage citizens such as farmers and
merchants, and teach them to make practical use of technology
in their daily life.
